Darren Allsopp: The D-Rig – My go to confidence rig!

When ever I need to get a bait out onto a firm spot I look no further than the D-rig kicker.

Paired with a Tacticarp 38mm anti tangle sleeve, a size 4 Tacticarp wide gape hook and a 15-20cm length of Tacticarp 25lb semi stiff hooklink, I have full confidence that I'm presenting a bottom or balanced bait perfectly every time.

How did I start using my D-rig kicker rig?

Well this is going to sound a bit silly and perhaps even a bit clichéd but it came to me during a dream! It was a very difficult session and I was out of ideas when trying to properly present a wafter bait. thinking of that possible weekend blank, made my head go blank instead.

That's when it hit me, I had one D-rig kicker left in my tackle box and decided to give it a go. I popped a wafter on, checked it in the margin and was amazed how it was presenting. I thought to myself, how was it this easy to present a bait so well?

So I casted out to a beautiful spot close to the other margin, about an hour later my lined roared off and I was rewarded with a beautiful 36lb common!

From that day on, I now had a go to rig for a lot of the fishing I do. A go to rig that is easy to assemble and gives me loads of confidence; what more could you ask for.
